Our vision is so limited we can hardly imagine a love that does not show itself in protection from suffering.... The love of God did not protect His own Son.... He will not necessarily protect us - not from anything it takes to make us like His Son. A lot of hammering and chiseling and purifying by fire will have to go into the process. Elisabeth Elliot
About This Quote

When we think of a mother, we think of a person who is constantly there for her child. A mother will go to great lengths to protect her child from harm, from danger, from violence, from pain. For a mother, love is something that must be lived out. In the Bible, it is said that God’s love is without limits and without measure.

So if we want to experience God’s love we can check His character by wondering how he acted when Jesus was on the cross. Jesus gave up everything – his life and his love – and yet God did not protect him. He did not shield him from suffering and he did not shield him from pain.

Instead, He allowed him to experience all of those things with full force. Jesus was beaten and whipped and pierced through the hands and feet with spikes and nails – all for the sake of love.
